How a Coastal Stripe Inspired the Beginning of XV Interiors

How a Coastal Stripe Inspired the Beginning of XV Interiors

The Stripe That Started It All

There are certain designs that quietly shape a brand from the very beginning. For XV Interiors, it was always the stripe.

Long before the hand-drawn coastal collections, wallpapers and fabrics, there was a simple idea: to create a woven blue and white stripe that truly captured the feeling of coastal living.

Not printed. Woven.

That distinction mattered from the start.

Founder Izzey Hung had spent years searching for bedding that felt timeless, relaxed and authentic to life by the water. Yet many of the stripes she discovered lacked the depth, texture and craftsmanship she was looking for. Printed stripes often felt flat, while the colours rarely reflected the rich, inky blue tones seen along the coastline of the Isle of Wight and Hampshire — places that continue to inspire the spirit of XV today.

The search for the right blue became something of an obsession.

Too bright and it lost its sophistication. Too pale and it no longer felt connected to the sea. The aim was to create a confident coastal blue that felt both classic and enduring against crisp white cotton.

Eventually, that vision became reality through a woven jacquard stripe — crafted with depth, texture and longevity in mind.

That stripe became the beginning of XV.

Soon after, Izzey met designer Vicky Sanders, former Head of Design at Matthew Williamson and Zara Home. Together, they began building a wider design narrative around the stripe itself, creating hand-drawn collections inspired by life on and off the water — from coastal walks and harbour lines to underwater textures and natural forms.

Yet throughout every collection, the stripe remained the constant.

Today, that original design is being properly named for the very first time: Harbour Stripe.

More than just a product name, Harbour Stripe represents the origins of XV Interiors — a reflection of the coastal lifestyle, craftsmanship and enduring design principles that continue to shape the brand today.

As trends come and go, stripes remain timeless. They bring structure without formality, simplicity without compromise, and a sense of calm familiarity to a home. Whether layered with coastal prints or standing confidently on their own, blue and white stripes have an effortless ability to feel both fresh and nostalgic at the same time.

For us, Harbour Stripe is more than bedding.
It is the stripe that started it all.
